Bako National Park (Day Trip or Over Night)

The journey to this fabulous National Park will take approximately 45 minutes by road from Kuching and a 25 minutes boat ride from the National Park Boat Terminal at Bako Village.

Bako National Park (BNP) with its great biodiversity is one of the best places in Sarawak to spot wildlife in their natural surroundings. Commonly spotted here are the strange looking Proboscis Monkeys, Silver Leaf Monkeys, Long Tail Macaques, Bearded Pigs, Monitor Lizards and numerous species of birds.

Forest and vegetation types include beach vegetation, cliff vegetation, Kerangas or Heath Forest, Mangrove Forest, Mixed Dipterocarp Forest, Padang or Grasslands Vegetation and Peat Swamp Forest.

The many trails here offer varying attractions and may be undertaken dependent upon your level of fitness and interests. There is also the joy of swimming in the warm waters of the South China Sea at one of the secluded beaches subject to sea and weather condition.

Itinerary: Daytrip

0830 hours – Pickup from hotel and drive about 35 minutes to Bako Village. From the village, take about a 30-minute boat ride (depending on the tide) to the park situated on a peninsula. Bako is one of the best places in Sarawak to see wildlife in a natural setting. The various types of animals that are commonly spotted at Bako include the proboscis monkeys, silver leaf monkeys, long-tailed macaques, wild boars, monitor lizards and numerous species of birds.Forest types range from mangrove to kerangas (heath forest), tropical swamp vegetation, cliff vegetation and beach vegetation. There are several trails to follow inside the park depending on level of fitness and interest.

Journey back to the jetty for boat ride to Bako Village and return to your hotel. Arrive Kuching mid-afternoon. Please note schedule may depend on tide.

Itinerary: 2D1N Fullboard

Day 1 

Pick up from your hotel at 08:30hrs and drive about 35 minutes to Bako Village. From the village, take about a 30-minute boat ride (depending on the tide) to the park situated on a peninsula. There are several trails to follow inside the park depending on level of fitness and interest.

After dinner go for a night walk. Overnight at the park accommodation.

Day 2  

Breakfast at the park canteen. If you missed seeing the proboscis monkeys the evening before, take an early morning trek to see the proboscis monkeys as they start their day, feeding on the river banks. Spend the morning exploring more of the park.

Lunch at Park Canteen before returning to Kuching mid-afternoon. (Schedule may depend on tide)

Things to wear and bring:

Wear comfortable full cover trekking/walking shoes; light clothing; still and/or video cameras; swimming suit/trunk or shorts, bath towel, change of clothes, suntan lotion, hat, insect repellant.
