Our Borneo Experiences
BEX’s adventures are designed for travelers by travelers. To illustrate this and our passion for travel and adventure, we take this opportunity to share with you some of our personal Borneo experiences.
BEX Pedal Power 2011 – Kuching to Pontianak
Team BEX by Singgahsana Lodge Adventures Sdn. Bhd. comprising Donald & Marina, Richard Foo, Laurence Burnham, Nick Brierley, David Brierley and Gino Chow traversed the 400+ kilometres from Kuching, Sarawak, Malaysian Borneo to Pontianak, West Kalimantan, Indonesian Borneo on bicycles as part of the BEX Pedal Power Tour 2011.
Buntal to Karangan Trek 2010
An exploratory trek along the coastline from Buntal Village to Karangan on the Santubong Peninsular unravelled the many outstanding natural features of this untouched landscape. Pristine rainforest with cool clear mountain streams extending virtually to white sandy beaches and sea otters in playful banter whilst Rhinoceros Hornbills showing off their exuberant plumage up on the forest canopy made this a truly ‘Garden of Eden experience.
Pedal Power 2009 – Kuching to Kota Kinabalu
Donald & Marina Tan undertook this cycling challenge with a long time friend Colin Wei in what has become the first Pedal Power Tour – 2009 Kuching to Kota Kinabalu. The trio took a total of 15 cycling days and 3 rest days to cover the 1355 kilometres distance crossing the Brunei international border twice to arrive in Kota Kinabalu 18 days later.
Upriver to Long Singut 2009
Donald & Marina were part of a medical tour organised by the British Alumni in Kuching to the most remote village along the Balleh River, Long Singut. This village of the Kenyah people is sited close to the headwaters of the Balleh and is a 3 days journey from Kuching by plane, express boat, speedboat and finally long boat upriver. Shooting the many rapids with hornbills flying overhead and visiting the many settlements enroute and the true hospitality of the Kenyah people of Long Singut made this a truly memorable Borneo experience.
Lepo Bunga to Bario via Gunung Murud Trek 2009
Donald & Marina with Laurence Burnham was part of a group that trekked through the northern Sarawak Kelabit Highlands from Lepo Bunga to Mount Murud to Pa’ Lungan Village and onwards to Bario. An expedition that took 5 days in total with the longest day trek taking an exhausting 17 hours.
Mount Kinabalu Summit Climb 2001
Following a previous visit to the National Park at the foothills of Mount Kinabalu in 2001, Donald & Marina Tan was inspired to climb and eventually summited the majestic 4,350 metres Mount Kinabalu the following year. This provides an invaluable insight of the beauty of this iconic Borneo landmark.
