The Tabin Wildlife Extended Safari (3D2N)
Established in 1984, the Tabin Wildlife Reserve is located within the Dent Peninsula in the eastern part of Sabah. Covering an area of approximately 300,000 acres of lowland Dipterocarp forest, this reserve is managed collaboratively by the Wildlife Department of Sabah and Forestry Department of Sabah.
With resort facilities built into the reserve in 2004, this area has become a hotspot for nature enthusiasts to observe the rich biodiversity of Borneo. The three largest mammals of Sabah, namely Borneo Pygmy Elephant, Sumatran Rhinoceros and Tembadau or Wild Cattle; nine species of primate as well as three species of cats all of which are on the protected list are all found within the reserve.
Tabin Wildlife Reserve is also a birders’ paradise with 42 families representing 300 different species have been recorded.

Tabin Wildlife Reserve
You will be picked up from the town of Lahad Datu for the hour and a half road journey to Tabin Wildlife Reserve. After checking into your comfortable accommodation, visit the Trogon Hall gallery for information about the conservation efforts of Tabin Wildlife Reserve and a briefing on birds, insects and animals that are found in this area.
In the afternoon, visit the active Lipad mud volcano which is a mineral salt lick for wildlife and try identifying the many wildlife footprints scattered here. Trek back to your resort via the Elephant Trail. After dinner, enjoy a CD/Slide presentation on Tabin’s natural wonders, followed by a night safari to spot nocturnal wildlife and birds.
300 species of birds
Join the early morning bird walk to discover some of Tabin’s rich occurrence of more than 300 species of birds. After breakfast, you will be taken on a drive to the core area for more wildlife spotting and for photo sessions before trekking through the lush green rainforest known for its rich diversity of plants and animal species to visit Lipad Waterfall. Take a refreshing dip in the natural pool under the waterfall.
In the afternoon, try out the Tabin Rainforest Foot Soak made with a natural blend of herbs, to relax tired muscles after long jungle treks. In the evening, a dusk drive to look out for more nocturnal wildlife & birds coming out to look for food during this time of the day. After dinner, go for a night walk along the trail nearby the resort in search of sleeping birds, frog and nocturnal wildlife.
You may opt to take up a dawn drive to spot wildlife that are active at this time of the day (this item is not included in package and is chargeable at RM120.00 per person). Spend the rest of the morning on your own exploring the pristine surroundings. After lunch, depart back to Lahad Datu.
