Summiting Mount Kinabalu via Timpohon Gate
Rising majestically above the surrounding plain, Mt. Kinabalu is a rugged, heavily eroded mountain, scarred by gullies, with jagged rocks and sharp pointed peaks fringed by pristine Montane Rainforests. At 4,095 meters or 13,435 feet above sea level, this legendary mountain is the highest in Borneo and one of the highest in South East Asia drawing trekkers for an adventure of a lifetime.
Designated a UNESCO World Heritage site in 2000 for its biological significance (with some 6,000 plants, 326 birds and more than 100 mammalian species), Mt. Kinabalu is a magnet for nature lovers.

Mt. Kinabalu Park
Early morning, depart for Mt. Kinabalu Park. The journey will take approximately 2 hrs. passing by villages, paddy fields along the Crocker Range. A brief stop at Nabalu Market for an opportunity to buy local handicrafts and local fruits. Upon arrival at Mt. Kinabalu Park, you will check-in at the Park’s office and settle into your accommodation. Free time at leisure. Dinner and overnight at Mt. Kinabalu Park.
After breakfast, gather at Mesilau Park Office with mountain guide and start trekking up Mt. Kinabalu. The trek will take about 5-8 hours (depending on individual fitness levels). Upon arriving at the Laban Rata area (11,000 ft.), check into your assigned overnight accommodation; relax and enjoy the spectacular mountain landscape. Dinner and overnight at Laban Rata.
Wake up very early at 2 am and commence your ascend by torchlight towards the summit. This summit climb takes approximately three hours and weather permitting; you will be well rewarded with a beautiful sunrise at approximately 6 am. After 30 minutes at the summit, you commence your trek back down to the Timpohon Gate. From here, you will be transferred back to the Mt. Kinabalu Park headquarters to collect your Certificate of Achievement. Lunch will be served at the Restaurant at Mt. Kinabalu Park after which you will depart back to Kota Kinabalu city.
Staying in the non-heater bunk bed accommodation could be very cold sometimes. It is advisable to bring along your own sleeping bag or you can rent that at the rest house, at your own cost.
