All about the Mount Santubong Night Walk.

As the sun sets and the Orangutans retire into their nests, an army of very different creatures emerges, turning the forest into a kaleidoscope of sounds, sights, and scents, a truly ‘avatar moment’. Gremlin-like primates feast on reptiles and insects; prehistoric anteaters forage the forest floor and blue-eyed lizards and cat-like geckos perched high in the trees await their unknowing prey. Join us for this magical experience.

  1. Mount Santubong Night Walk

Depart from your accommodation at a predetermined time in relation to your accommodation location and make your way to the Mount Santubong trailhead. Your Guide will brief you on health and safety and the most efficient way to use your torch before you start your trek. You will be required to maintain complete silence as you trek along the mountain trail only speaking in whispers when necessary as you will have to use all your senses to pick out the nocturnal critters out and about.

Listen to the sounds of Cicadas calling out to each other, enjoy the scent of the night blossom as the jungle becomes moist again after the sun has gone down. Make use of your torch to spot the Avian life sleeping in the canopy above you after a busy day foraging amongst this virgin forest.  Looking for night crawlers with your torch requires you to look both up and down and all around. The forest carpet comes alive at night so be careful where you tread.

Your guide will identify where is the best spot to take your packed dinner.  After dinner, you will make your way along the trail and back towards the main entrance.  Please remember to bring back with you any rubbish or spent batteries from your torch(s). Depart from the trail and get back into your vehicle for the transfer back to your hotel. Expect to be back by 10:30 pm after an exciting Borneo experience in the rainforest at night.

Wear comfortable walking shoes; light clothing, light raincoat, still or video cameras, hat, insect repellant and a good torch.
