Stretching 560km from the Crocker Range in the southwest of Sabah to the Sulu Sea in the east, the Kinabatangan River sustains one of the world’s richest ecosystems.
The Kinabatangan wildlife sanctuary is a mere 26,103 hectares in size and within this tiny area, is a great variety of animals and flora, some endemic to Borneo and some endemic to the area itself.
Wildlife enthusiasts have a good chance of sighting wildlife such as the iconic Orang Utan, Borneo Pygmy Elephant, Proboscis Monkeys, Silver Leaf Monkeys, Macaques, Civet Cats, Snakes, Estuarine Crocodiles, Otters, Wildboars and others. Birders also get to check off their long list of rare birdlife including all 8 species of Hornbills, Blue Headed Pitta, Borneo Bristlehead and more.
