Explore Mulu National Park – Show Caves & Pinnacles Independent Tour
From: USD$171.00
Deep in the heart of Borneo lies Sarawak’s Gunung or Mount Mulu National Park, one of the most spectacular natural phenomenon on earth. Over millennia the flow of water draining off the slopes of Gunung Mulu to the sea has carved deep gorges through the Limestone Mountains forming a complex network of vast caves.
The Mulu National Park covers an area of 52,864 hectares of Borneo’s primary tropical forest containing a high diversity of species including many of Borneo endemics and threatened species. The large cave passages and chambers also become a platform for an impressive wildlife spectacle as millions of cave swiftlets and bats take flight in wonderfully organized formation as they exit their daytime roost in search of food as dusk falls.
The famous Pinnacles’ at Mulu consist of a series of 45-meter high, razor-sharp limestone spikes that tower above the surrounding vegetation, mid-way up the slope of Gunung Api. Although the trek to view them is one of the most popular in the park, trekkers are duly warned that the Pinnacle Summit Trek is a tough and challenging one. The trail itself is very steep (near vertical parts) and requires a high level of fitness.
