This is one of Borneo’s largest protected Lowland Rainforest, which boasts 43,800 hectares of pristine and undisturbed tropical flora and fauna in the eastern part of Sabah. It is home to more than 340 Birds species, 120 species of Mammals, 72 species of Reptiles, 56 species of Amphibians and a staggering 200 species of plants per hectare.
Danum Valley Conservation Area is a naturalists’ paradise. Be dazzled by the range of lowland fauna and spot the wild creatures, such as Banteng or Wild Cattle, Asian Pygmy Elephants, Clouded Leopard, Orang Utan, Proboscis Monkey. Don’t forget, sighting is never guaranteed due to the vast expanse of wilderness here.

An alternative option to splurging at the luxurious Borneo Rainforest Lodge is a stay at the Danum Valley Field Center (DVFC), a restricted Nature Conservation and Research facility to experience this wonderful slice of the Borneo wilderness. Explore designated areas around the DVFC including the Nature Trail with a 40 metre Observation Platform, Orchid Trail, Suspension Bridge, Segama Beach and other Self-Guided Trails on your own. Entering into non-designated areas of the rainforest without appointed forest ranger however is strictly prohibited.
