Gunung Gading National Park is home to the world’s largest flower, the Rafflesia. Growing up to approximately a metre in diameter, this amazing flower gives off a pungent odour, attracting flies and other insects for pollination.
The Rafflesia has no specific blooming season and it takes nine months to mature from bud to flower. Once fully bloomed, it lasts only 4 or 5 days before withering. Rafflesia Tuan-Mudae is the species that occurs at this National Park.
